Biography

Professor Yun Xia joined Valparaiso University in 2012 and teaches history courses on East Asia. Professor Xia’s research interests are in Chinese legal history and legal reform, in the context of the transformation of political and legal institutions in China since the last several decades of the nineteenth century. She is currently working on a book that examines the changing nature of Chinese laws, judiciary, and political culture through a study of political, legal, and cultural campaigns against Chinese collaborators who emerged during the Sino-Japanese War (1937–1945). Professor Xia is also interested in film studies, gender, and Sino-Japanese relations and will offer undergraduate and graduate level courses in these areas.
