"I
NOTICED THE PEACHES"
—Christopher Howell
They're common anyone can notice them
except now and then they ripen in the mind
the fuzz of their exterior becomes a collusion
of fingers and the feeling brain the tongue
retelling its own involvement then
wind sets loose an actual shimmer of pastel
and flutter it being April and you realize
you're seeing them impersonal as they are you
hold a shape a weight and liquid sweetness
not like memory but a completion to believe in
