Excelencia in Education Fall Convening
Rebekah Arevalo and Noemi Lozano had the incredible opportunity to attend the Excelencia in Education Fall Convening in Washington, D.C., representing Valparaiso University. This event brought together a community united by a common cause — advancing Latino student success with intentionality and a deep commitment to servingness. Leaders from across higher education, philanthropy, business, and government came together to exchange ideas and discuss strategies that ensure our institutions meet the needs of this growing student population.Panels featuring brilliant leaders such as Azuri Gonzalez, Ed.D., Homer Vallejo, Saúl Jiménez-Sandoval, Dr. Mike Muñoz, Veronica Herrero and Jennifer Engle of the US DOE, who are each driving change and ensuring pathways for Latino student success. The sessions highlighted topics like “Elevating What Works for Latino Students,” “Tapping Latino Talent to Ensure America’s Future,” and strategies for making college more affordable.
Special thanks to Excelencia in Education and its amazing co-founders, Deborah Santiago and Sarita Brown, for their visionary leadership in this movement.
