What does school spirit mean to you? How do you promote it around campus?
School spirit means to me being supportive of not only supportive of athletics but of the preforming arts and other clubs on campus. It means wearing brown and gold with pride and supporting the campus as a whole.
What is one goal you would like to accomplish in your lifetime and why?
One goal I would like to accomplish in my lifetime to be an intricate part in my career path. I really want to be a leader in the path of my career; a leading force that someone can look up too. Eventually be someone can use as a resource in research.
Why should your classmates vote for you? Why should you represent Valparaiso University as this years Homecoming King/Queen?
I believe my classmates should vote for me because I think being involved with certain groups has given me a different perspective of valpo’s campus. I think I represent many aspects of being apart of Valpos student community. I was a student athlete my freshman year and I am involved in different groups on campus. I was even able to study abroad and gain a different perspective of what it means to be a valpo student. I am the 23rd member of my family to go to valpo. It means a lot to even be nominated and involved in this process to represent myself and family at homecoming.

What does school spirit mean to you? How do you promote it around campus?I best promote my school spirit by being involved around campus in a variety of organizations! Valpo has given so much to me – wonderful professors, amazing classmates, and the best environment to live and learn in. By being involved around campus, I do my best to give back to the community. Whether it be through my involvement on the Senior Class Gift Initiative where we get to make a gift to Valpo, helping promote the English department through Sigma Tau Delta, or getting to be a leader in FSL – I have found so many ways to give to those around me and to Valpo. There is no better way to show Valpo spirit than to get involved and help Valpo continue to be such a wonderful home.
What is one goal you would like to accomplish in your lifetime and why? I am very passionate about literacy and access to education. I interned at a non-profit organization focused on providing free education and GED preparation to adults in Cleveland, OH. Seeing the good work this organization does for the community each day has informed a lot of my future goals. In my lifetime, I have a goal to serve on a non-profit board of directors for an organization that provides access to literacy education in their community. In Cleveland alone, 66% of adults are functionally illiterate meaning they do not know how to read items for understanding, like medical prescription directions or a bus route. I would love to help be part of an organization that works to decrease illiteracy rates because no person should ever be left behind because of their reading level.
Why should your classmates vote for you? Why should you represent Valparaiso University as this years Homecoming King/Queen? My classmates should vote for me for Homecoming Queen because I do my best to represent what it means to be a Valpo Student each day: eager to learn, passionate about the community, and always proud to be at Valpo. I would be so excited to represent the senior class and all of the people and organizations that have enriched my time at Valpo!

What does school spirit mean to you? How do you promote it around campus? School Spirit means fostering a welcoming and supportive community for everyone on campus, and ensuring that everyone feels that they have found their home at Valpo. I promote it by being active in my sorority, and embracing my organization’s and Valpo’s values. I not only embrace these values, but I also support numerous student orgs on campus an
d attend their events to help support their missions and their members.
What is one goal you would like to accomplish in your lifetime and why? I would like to open my own medical practice in a medically underserved community that specifically benefits those who lack access to quality and affordable medical care.
Why should your classmates vote for you? Why should you represent Valparaiso University as this years Homecoming King/Queen? I am someone who upholds Kappa Kappa Gamma’s values of truth, knowledge, and connection, as well as Valpo’s beliefs of mutual respect and inclusivity. I have benefitted greatly from the opportunities and lifelong friendships Valpo has given me, and I want to serve as a reminder to alumni of all Valpo has given them, as well as a testimony to new students of all that’s waiting for them.

What does school spirit mean to you? How do you promote it around campus? For me, school spirit comes from fostering a sense of community. The close-knit relationships that are formed in the classroom, on the field, and on campus make supporting Valparaiso University come easy. Not only are we cheering on our classmates and peers, but we are also cheering on our friends; this feeling of pride and belonging that Valpo gives to us is returned in our dedication to the success of the brown and gold. Personally, I find that my school spirit stems from the multiple communities I surround myself with on campus. By showing up to English Department, Fraternity/Sorority Life, and other campus events – such as Dance Marathon and Day of Caring – I have been able to support my peers and friends while also building relationships that have only made my love for our campus even stronger.
What is one goal you would like to accomplish in your lifetime and why? It has always been my dream to become an advocacy attorney for children involved in the law, specifically within the foster care system. After completing my internship this summer, I have only become more dedicated to my dream of attending law school. I would say that if I had to choose one goal to accomplish it would be to graduate law school and pass the bar exam in order to begin working to be a sign of hope and make at least one child’s life a little bit better.
Why should your classmates vote for you? Why should you represent Valparaiso University as this years Homecoming King/Queen? Throughout my past three years here at Valparaiso University, this place has become my home away from home. I wouldn’t trade the communities, relationships or experiences for anything, and I think I finally understand what it means to be a Valpo student. Because of these experiences and my involvement in multiple areas on campus, I feel as though I am able to relate to many of my fellow peers and I can help to encourage them to cherish the four years we all have here.

What does school spirit mean to you? How do you promote it around campus? School spirit is taking pride in your school, its students, and its values. It is a shared sense of community and identity that comes from being proud of Valparaiso University and supporting fellow students as they pursue their passions. At Valpo, I do my best to live up to the motto of “In thy light we see light” by treating everyone with kindness and compassion.
I aim to give my best effort in all areas – academically, socially, and ethically. I love my role as an Ambassador in Admissions and show my Valpo school spirit every time I give a tour of campus. It is so rewarding to show prospective students how Valpo could be their new home and the place where they can refine and shine their own light. I also enthusiastically attend activities and events on campus – whether it be cheering for an athletic team, attending a musical performance, worshipping at chapel, or volunteering on a service project. I believe it is important to lift up my fellow students by supporting their efforts and the work they do to make a positive impact on this campus.
What is one goal you would like to accomplish in your lifetime and why?
A goal I’d like to accomplish in my lifetime is to raise money for charitable causes by running a race (whether it be a 5k or marathon) on all 7 continents. I have raised money in the past for fundraisers through running and I would challenge myself to compete on new global trails in order to broaden my worldview, to meet new people along the way and to highlight the important work of charitable organizations. Particularly I would want to raise money and awareness for organizations that prevent child abuse, as I have volunteered with these groups in internships and through my campus involvement, and it’s a cause about which I feel deeply passionate.
Why should your classmates vote for you? Why should you represent Valparaiso University as this years Homecoming King/Queen?
I would be incredibly humbled to represent Valparaiso University as Homecoming Queen. I strive to embody the values that Valpo stands for including leadership, service, and being a light to others. I have served the university in a variety of capacities and through each role I have aimed to build up and strengthen our community. I am the Training Coordinator in the Admissions Office, a Teaching Assistant of first-year Christ College students, and the President of Kappa Delta sorority. I have given hundreds of volunteer hours the past three years serving alongside fellow Valpo students. I am in awe of the strength, friendliness and resiliency of the Valpo community especially as we have worked through the challenges of the pandemic. Beyond any of my campus involvements, I do my best to welcome and include others by showing kindness, respect, empathy, and love. Valpo has helped me to grow into a better leader, friend, and overall person and it would be a tremendous honor to represent this community and its values at Homecoming. Thank you so much for this opportunity!

What does school spirit mean to you? How do you promote it around campus? To me, school spirit means loving your school and not being ashamed of it! I feel like I am always representing Valpo. As a sorority woman, we say we are constantly wearing our letters, and I feel like it is the same as being a Valpo student. We are constantly representing Valpo on and off campus and weather or not we have Valpo gear. Not to mention that I am also an Orientation Assistant which is a huge part in why I love Valpo so much and why I am not ashamed to promote Valpo all the time! I believe that the more school spirit you have and the more you love Valpo, the more you will get out of your time here at Valparaiso University.
What is one goal you would like to accomplish in your lifetime and why? One goal that I would like to accomplish in my lifetime is becoming a Professional Stage Manager at Disney World. Being a Stage Manager has been one of the most amazing and fulfilling jobs I have ever had and has been my dream job for as long as I can remember. Disney and working in theatre have always been two places where I feel most at home and where I can be my true authentic self. Being a Stage Manager at Disney allows me to combine two of my favorite things in the world and make it my job! I mean, who wouldn’t want to be apart of making the magic at Disney?
Why should your classmates vote for you? Why should you represent Valparaiso University as this years Homecoming King/Queen? My classmates should vote for me because I care full heartedly about Valpo and the Valpo students, faculty and staff. I care about how the students are doing, I care about student involvement on and off campus, I care about helping those around me, I care about the changes that Valpo is making and I love and care for the entire Valparaiso University community. I want to represent Valpo as the homecoming Queen because I want to give back to Valpo after it has given me so much. Valpo has given me so many amazing opportunities such as being Lead Orientation Assistant, finding my home in a sorority, giving me some of my best friends, helped me find my passions and has pushed me to get my dream job, and Valpo has helped me grow as a leader, friend, and person. I honestly don’t think I would be the person I am today if it wasn’t for Valpo, so I want to give back in any way I can to thank Valpo and the Valpo community for all they have done for me.

What does school spirit mean to you? How do you promote it around campus? To me, school spirit means taking pride in your university. I feel like I promote this by not only being involved in university programs and attending campus wide events but by being enthusiastic about them. I recognize that my excitement about a particular event may influence others and in turn get them excited about it too!
What is one goal you would like to accomplish in your lifetime and why? A goal of mine is to graduate and work with a group of researchers to develop new pharmaceuticals. The world of medicine is ever changing and I would like to play a role in that change knowing that I have the potential to impact someone’s life for the better.
Why should your classmates vote for you? Why should you represent Valparaiso University as this years Homecoming King/Queen? I am very humbled to represent Chi Omega and potentially be this years Homecoming Queen. I think my classmates should vote for me because I am very personable and give my absolute all to everything I do.

What does school spirit mean to you? How do you promote it around campus?
To me, school spirit comes from the heart and means being proud of the institution one is at. Just like faith, one either has it or they don’t. I truly believe that not only is VU a direct representation of myself but that I am also a direct representation of what Valpo is and what our values are. I always proudly state I am a Valpo student and get involved on campus to help make Valpo a safer place for everyone.
What is one goal you would like to accomplish in your lifetime and why?
Although this is quite broad, I want to be a pillar of strength to everyone I meet. I want to be that person people can always rely on and know that I will there to help them through anything.
Why should your classmates vote for you? Why should you represent Valparaiso University as this years Homecoming King/Queen?
My classmates should vote for me because in all of my four years, I have been a constant presence. Not only in classrooms and lab, but I have been heavily involved in FSL, multicultural organizations, mentoring programs, committees, and the chemistry department all while being a commuter. I should represent Valparaiso University as this years Homecoming Queen because I have represented VU since 2018.

What does school spirit mean to you? How do you promote it around campus? When someone thinks of school spirit, the visual that usually comes to mind is the person who is decked out in school colors and cheering the loudest at a football game. But for Valpo, I think school spirit looks a lot different. School spirit to me is a spirit of kindness and lending a hand, not to be seen, but simply to be of service. Someone who has school spirit embodies the spirit of the university and our motto in particular: In Thy light, we see light. Taking advantage of all of the opportunities for involvement and deeper learning and understanding outside of the classroom is acknowledging the light that Valpo is shining and finding your own purpose and light through that. I promote this kind of spirit on campus by attending events in various realms from basketball games to VUDU’s comedy shows to chorale concerts to OMP events- being a supportive peer whenever I can and embodying the light that Valpo has shown me.
What is one goal you would like to accomplish in your lifetime and why? One goal I want to accomplish in my lifetime is helping one of my best friends find a job he loves and is proud of. It is so disheartening to grow older and realize that his job opportunities are very slim because of his disability. He loved his special education class in high school, but when I left for college, he so desperately wanted to go to college too. While there are some college options for people with intellectual disabilities (ID), they are few in number. I hope to make a difference for my friend and other people with ID by increasing the number of collegiate level opportunities for learning, resulting in more job opportunities. People with ID have goals and dreams like everybody else and they deserve to be given the opportunity to achieve and live them.
Why should your classmates vote for you? Why should you represent Valparaiso University as this years Homecoming King/Queen? I hope that my classmates who know me and who value me as a human and friend, vote for me. But for those of you who don’t know me or who maybe don’t know any of the nominees, I think you should vote for the person who has similar passions and values to you, the person whom you see a reflection of yourself in. I am very passionate about diversity and inclusion on campus. One example of this is a project I did for a social work course where myself and a team of 4 other students created a strategic plan addressing ableism on campus. for ways to make the campus more inclusive for students with disabilities. One of our suggestions was making the Access and Accommodations Resource Center a more accessible resource for students by making it more known. As a tour guide in the Admissions office, I got this resource placed onto our tour script so that incoming students are aware of the ability for accommodations here at Valpo because not every disability is a visible one and all students deserve to have an equitable experience when they come here.

What does school spirit mean to you? How do you promote it around campus?
To me, school spirit is not only enthusiasm and excitement about campus events, whether that be social, academic, athletic, or otherwise. I believe that school spirit involves being a good example and representing campus in a positive way both in and out of the public eye. It means being invested in your school’s success, and actively contributing to it. Someone with good school spirit is someone that will participate in a wide variety of events and programs, even those that are not directly through one’s own involvements. Most importantly, I believe that school spirit involves doing more of what works well, and actively working to improve the things that do not.
To promote school spirit, I try to remain as involved as I plausibly can in a variety of organizations.
Currently, I am involved in Hooked on Tonics acapella, Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, Dance Marathon Morale team, intramural sports, and I work as an Ambassador of Admissions. I also have served as an Orientation Assistant for the past 3 years at Valpo. My involvements here at Valpo have exposed me to countless wonderful people, and I can’t help but keep my school spirit up when I interact closely with a lot of Valpo’s greatest leaders. I have learned that I promote school spirit by addressing every challenge with a positive attitude, and by trying to be a good example for my organizations and my university in everything that I do. I approach others with a warm, enthusiastic, and welcoming demeanor, and I believe I bring a good sense of humor as well. School spirit is more than just excitement for me school; it is excitement for those that are experiencing it with me.
What is one goal you would like to accomplish in your lifetime and why?
In a more professional sense, I would like to be accepted into a quality, evidence-based Doctor of Physical therapy program, and eventually become a licensed physical therapist. While this will certainly be a challenging endeavor, I am excited for the opportunities that will come when I (if all goes well) complete the educational process. When I am one day financially stable enough, my goal is to be a strong, secure role model for my children, and continue to provide for others what I have been very lucky to have had provided for me.
Why should your classmates vote for you? Why should you represent Valparaiso University as this years Homecoming King/Queen?
I believe that my classmates should vote for me because I am not someone whose identity falls under any single organization or group of people here on campus. I have participated in a number of different organizations and on-campus jobs, and I’ve found that no two groups I have been a part of have been alike. I have had almost entirely positive experiences in all of my involvements, and I have found that I can get along nicely with almost anyone. I should represent Valparaiso University as this year’s Homecoming King because I have always chosen to do what I can to represent Valpo in a positive way, and I believe being Homecoming King would be another way for me to do that.

What does school spirit mean to you? How do you promote it around campus? School spirit means showing pride and care in your university, organizations, and being an uplifting and active student on campus. I promote school spirit by attending and cheering on our athletic programs, involvement in multiple organizations throughout campus, and being a beacon of light bringing positivity and love towards my fellow classmates.
What is one goal you would like to accomplish in your lifetime and why?
A goal I would like to accomplish in my lifetime is to travel across the globe. I spent the past semester studying abroad in Reutlingen Germany and had an enlightening experience living in Europe. While I was there I loved the feeling of stepping out of my comfort zone and immersing myself in a new culture. Since then I’ve had a passion to go back, explore, and understand more cultures across the world.
Why should your classmates vote for you? Why should you represent Valparaiso University as this years Homecoming King/Queen? I think that my classmates should vote for me for Homecoming King because I have been an active member in both the Valpo and FSL community. I believe that I express positivity and a Christian attitude towards my professors, classmates and friends and strive to live out valpo’s motto in thy light we see light!

What does school spirit mean to you? How do you promote it around campus? School spirit means
really becoming a part of your school’s community and owning that as your own community. Coming together as one and taking pride in our victories, and learning from our losses. I do my best to promote this by trying to bring people together to create a welcoming environment and encouraging everyone around me to do their best. I believe Valpo gives everyone that attends the opportunity and resources to become the greatest version of themselves, and being proud of that is what school spirit means to me.
What is one goal you would like to accomplish in your lifetime and why? One goal I would like to accomplish in my lifetime is to travel the world. Throughout my time here at Valpo, I have realized more and more how important the relationships that I have built are. After my time at Valpo, I want to expand on that and meet people all around the world. My goal is to meet and learn from people from a multitude of locations and backgrounds.
Why should your classmates vote for you? Why should you represent Valparaiso University as this years Homecoming King/Queen? Valpo has already given me so many opportunities to grow as a person. I have grown as a leader, a philanthropist, and a friend to so many. This is all thanks to all the opportunities this school has given me and all the amazing people that have been a part of it. I have been trying my best to be part of the glue that helps bring this community closer together, and I think that is why I should represent Valparaiso University as this years Homecoming King. I couldn’t speak higher about my experience here at Valpo and I just want to say thanks to everyone who has been a part of that.

What does school spirit mean to you? How do you promote it around campus?
School spirit, to me, means so much more than just wearing Valpo gear or showing your support at university
affiliated events. It’s being a part of something that is bigger than yourself, bigger than everyone. It’s being able to build and foster relationships with all students on campus in order to create a family within a community. I always say students at Valpo aren’t just a student body, but we are a family. In order to maintain this strong sense of community, I try my best to be genuine and friendly with everyone I meet and interact with at Valpo. This community thrives on the relationships Valpo students have with each other and I try to make sure I am doing my best to uphold a strong sense of personal connection and interest with all the people I meet at Valpo. I do this through my involvements in the Admissions Office, Dance Marathon, Freshman Orientation, and lastly Sigma Chi. Philanthropy, on-campus jobs, and organizations are my gateways to promoting and fostering a strong sense of community and school spirit.
What is one goal you would like to accomplish in your lifetime and why? Ever since studying abroad in Germany, I’ve been extremely passionate about traveling the world. I know its super cliché, but the world is home to many extraordinary people and places, and it would be a shame to not experience as much as possible. With that being said, my goal would be giving myself the opportunity to visit at least every major continent…at least once. Well, I might substitute Antarctica with something a little less snowy, but everything else at least once before the end of my time. Growing up in Valpo and staying here for college made me realize that well…maybe I shouldn’t spend more than a quarter of my life in the same place. Traveling would also give me the opportunity to grow and learn from the vastly different people I’ll meet and places I’ll go. Which, honestly that alone is what really inspires me to travel the world.
Why should your classmates vote for you? Why should you represent Valparaiso University as this years Homecoming King/Queen? Throughout my time at Valpo, I have involved myself in various student organizations, jobs, and other philanthropies to embody what it means to be a service and values-based leader on campus. I believe that through these opportunities I was able to grow not only as a member of the community, but as someone who truly represents Valparaiso University in a positive manner. Since the first time I stepped foot on Valpo’s campus, I have made it my mission to positively impact and lead the wonderful student body we have here at Valpo. While I haven’t quite got to everyone, I certainly hope the ones I have will think of me as someone who represents what the Homecoming King of Valparaiso University should represent. During my four years at Valpo, much of my time and dedication has been given to the community. However, this is nothing comparable to the friendships, memories, and experiences the community has given back to me. For that reason, I would be honored to represent Valparaiso University as this year’s Homecoming King.

What does school spirit mean to you? How do you promote it around campus? Valpo school spirit remains more than simply wearing school apparel on campus. I believe that promoting school spirit should take the form of being a wholesome and productive community member. Although I am extremely involved in student life, I am looking forward to being a better Valpo student everyday!
What is one goal you would like to accomplish in your lifetime and why? In simplest terms, I would love to be a mentor, which entails setting a positive example for those following in your footsteps. This may take the form of friendship, brotherhood, or a paternal relationship. This feeds into the concept of cultivating a meaningful legacy, or leaving a part of your own humanity behind.
Why should your classmates vote for you? Why should you represent Valparaiso University as this years Homecoming King/Queen? In essence, homecoming King and Queen acts as an opportunity to showcase the excellence of our community. I hope I resemble that success, but I am sure my fellow classmates do as well!
