Valpo’s Green Initiative Seeking Volunteers
The Valpo Green Campus Initiative is a group of faculty, staff, and students working to make our campus and community greener, and we would like your help to get there. This group is charged with implementing the strategic plan’s initiative to become “beacons of stewardship for the environment.”
Our mission statement reads: Valparaiso University acknowledges the obligation of a faith-based university to care for creation by implementing environmental stewardship throughout the University’s operations. We aim to lead responsibly through operational and economic measures, curriculum, research, and community outreach in order to balance the University’s economic, environmental, and social responsibilities.
To make our goals a reality, the group has created six subgroups to work on various aspects of sustainability: Energy, Waste, Water & Ecosystems, Food, Environmental Justice, Communication, and Fundraising.
Among our projects are:
- Monitoring and reducing waste on campus
- Fundraising for solar panels
- Making campus events “green,” i.e. without plastic
- Assessing sustainability literacy in our community
- Researching energy conservation projects
If you want to be a part of making our campus and community greener and more sustainable, find how you can participate here.
Even if you can’t join the group, you can take action right now to help make Valpo and our city greener:
