Commuter Student Guest Housing
Have an early class? Don’t want to drive in the snow? Is there a late-night campus event you want to attend?
The Office of Residential Life offers commuter students affordable overnight accommodation throughout the academic year to support academic success and involvement in campus co-curricular activities. Commuter Student Guest Housing is located in Brandt Hall and is available throughout the academic school year, except when the residence halls are closed for break periods.
General
Single-gender units with twin XL bed, desk, desk chair, and closet are available. Guests will utilize floor common area bathrooms which include showers, toilets, and sinks. Bed linens are provided. Students should bring their own towels and toiletries as needed. The cost is $50 per night which will be charged to the student’s University account upon check out.
Amenities
- Shared lounge space, kitchenette, computer lab and bathrooms.
- Each room is equipped with one network port for personal computers as well as wireless network services throughout the residence hall.
- Each residence hall also has a 24-hour computer lab with a printer that utilizes the university’s print quota system.
- Guests are welcome to participate in any Residential Life-sponsored events during their stay.
Policies
- Commuter Student Guest Housing is open to current Valparaiso students only.
- All guests must be familiar with and agree to abide by the Student Handbook and the policies outlined in our Short Term Housing Agreement. Failure to comply can result in eviction, fees, and/or banning from future Commuter Student Guest Housing bookings.
- Commuter Student Guest Housing is located at Alumni Hall, 1605 Campus Drive East, Valparaiso, IN 46383.
- All guests must check-in with their University-issued OneCard.
- The student’s account will be billed for any room damages and/or missing keys.
Reservations / Cancellations
- Reservations must be made online through the Office of Residential Life website Commuter Student Guest Housing reservation form.
- Check-in after 3 pm; Check out at 11 am.
- Same-day reservations are only available until 3 pm. In the case of extreme weather, exceptions may be made.
- Booking requests are not confirmed bookings. Requests are processed within two (2) business days; accepted bookings are emailed a confirmation to show at check-in.
- Confirmed reservations must be canceled 24-hours in advance by emailing reslife@valpo.edu. Failure to cancel in the required time period will result in a charge for the night stay.
Check-In / Check-Out Procedure
- Keys should be picked up from the Office of Residential Life (Harre Union Suite 120), during business hours (Monday- Friday 8 am-5 pm) on the day of guest check-in.
- Students wishing to stay for the weekend will need to pick up a key before 5 pm on Friday as the office is not open on the weekends.
- Guests are responsible for returning keys to the Res Life office by 11 am on the day of check-out. The not-returned/lost key fee is $25.
Billing
- The cost is $50 per night which will be charged to the student’s University account upon check out.
- The student’s account will be billed for any room damages and/or missing keys.
