Fall Opening 2024
The Residential Life staff is very excited to have you join us this fall! Our mission is to promote and develop a sense of place and community for our students within our residential program. We are happy to welcome you to our residential family and look forward to working with you this next year.
As you are aware, Valparaiso University believes a student’s residential environment is an integral component of their education. It affirms the educational benefits inherent in the residential aspect of the undergraduate experience. The residential experience complements the academic mission by providing a dynamic environment where living and learning interconnect. Furthermore, students are progressively empowered through nurturing, supporting, and challenging opportunities provided by the various housing options they reside in during their time at Valpo.
Below are links to some important information about opening for Fall 2024. Please review all of the information.
If you have any questions, please contact the Residential Life office at reslife@valpo.edu.
Move-In Day Information
The residence halls will open for the Fall 2024 semester on Saturday, August 17, 2024. All new students will be assigned move-in appointment times based on their fall housing assignment. The time range for these move-in appointments will be between 8 am and 1 pm on August 17. A student’s move-in appointment time and further move-in instructions will be sent via email in late-July.
Please label all items (boxes, totes, lamps, etc.) with your name and room number! Student volunteers and University staff will be there to assist you and your family in unloading your vehicle and will be able to take items right to your room. Labeling all of your items will ensure a volunteer can take any lost item to its needed location quickly.

When you arrive on campus, please report to your assigned building to check-in. The student will go into the main entrance to meet with Res Life staff and get their key. They will need their OneCard (student ID) to check-in quickly. Student volunteers will then go to each vehicle and start gathering items to take to the student’s room.
If you are not able to arrive on campus on this day, please contact our office by emailing Reslife@valpo.edu. During July and August our office receives a large number of emails so please provide us with two business days to respond to your request.
Returning student move-in will occur on Sunday, August 18-Tuesday, August 20, 2024 between 9:00am and 10:00pm each day. Please have your One Card (student ID) with you and ready when you arrive.
When you arrive on campus, please report to your assigned building to check-in. If you are a resident of the Promenade Apartments, please report to Promenade East to check-in. There will not be move-in assistance during this time. Please bring any carts/trolleys needed with you. If you have questions, please stop by the front desk area and a staff member will be able to assist you!
Please note, traffic will be congested and it will take time for you to find an unloading zone. Please DO NOT park in an unloading zone (side of the street, in front of the buildings, non-parking lot areas). Remove all items from your car and then move your car to a parking lot/the parking garage right away. Thank you so much for keeping the unloading zones open so others can move in quickly!
If there is a concern about the arrival time due to distance/travel conflicts or if you are not able to arrive by Tuesday, August 20, please contact our office. The first day of classes is Wednesday, August 21. You may reach us at reslife@valpo.edu. During July and August our office receives a large number of emails so please provide us with two business days to respond to your request.

Student-athletes who are involved in a fall sport that requires their training to begin prior to the official move-in date, your coaches will be in touch with you directly about move-in dates, times, and locations. You do not need to complete the online request form.
As a service to those student groups and organizations that are required to return to campus for essential functions related to the opening of the 2024-2025 academic year and various fall Welcome Back activities, the Office of Residential Life will offer early arrival housing for students who will be living on campus for the next academic year. If your program does not involve itself with activities related to opening weekend, it is expected that those students will move in during our normal check-in time, which begins on Saturday, August 17 (First Year and Transfer Students) or Sunday, August 19 to Tuesday, August 20 (Returning Students).
