Annual Christmas Concert at Valpo Kicks Off Holiday Season

Valparaiso University’s Christmas Concert returns the first weekend in December with two performances in the Chapel of the Resurrection.

Continuing a more than 90-year tradition, the Valparaiso University Christmas Concert: A Carol Festival features more than 200 student performers in the Chorale, men’s and women’s choirs, Chamber Concert Band, and Symphony Orchestra.

This year’s program includes a selection from George Frideric Handel’s “Messiah;” John Gardner’s “Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing;” Felix Mendelssohn’s “There Shall Be a Star from Jacob;” settings by Rutter, Barber, and Kodaly; and traditional favorites such as “Angels We Have Heard on High” and “Silent Night.”

The concert opens the Christmas season for the University, community, alumni and friends from throughout the Midwest. Performances are in the Chapel Friday, Dec. 4, at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 5, at 5 p.m.

Ticket prices are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and non-Valpo students, and free for Valpo students, faculty, and staff. Contact the University Box Office at 219.464.5162 for tickets and additional information.
