Valparaiso University to Host Arts and Entertainment Workshop Series

The Graduate School at Valparaiso University is hosting a week-long workshop series for arts and entertainment professionals Aug. 5-11.

The week begins with non-credit workshops on international arts and entertainment topics including museums, music and theatre. These will be led by Valpo faculty and staff and offer valuable professional development opportunities. All one-day workshops cost $50 per day, plus meals and optional entertainment.

On Thursday, Aug. 8, participants are invited to experience the arts of downtown Valparaiso through guided tours, exhibits and performances in Valparaiso arts venues. The day culminates with a free evening concert by Chicago Rat Pack at downtown Valparaiso’s Central Park Plaza.

The week’s featured workshop takes place Friday, Aug. 9, and focuses on grant seeking and grant writing. This workshop can be taken for continuing education credit and offers hands-on grant-seeking learning opportunities as well as instruction on grant-writing strategies. Following the workshop, a showing of “The Importance of Being Earnest” will be held at the Memorial Opera House in downtown Valparaiso.

The workshop series closes with a two-day course on Saturday, Aug. 10, and Sunday, Aug. 11, covering information management for arts organizations including how to collect, organize and use data for customer service, marketing and fundraising purposes. There is a $100 fee for this course.
