University president, student to switch roles for a day

Valparaiso University President Mark A. Heckler will exchange his suit and tie for a backpack and a notebook on April 20 when he switches roles with a student for the day in an event sponsored by Valpo’s Mortar Board to raise money for charity.

President Heckler and a student (to be named April 15) will change places starting at 8 a.m. The president will attend classes and take part in the student’s regular activities while the student will work in the president’s office, attending meetings with a variety of University leaders.

In order to trade places with the president, Mortar Board will be selling tickets ($2 each or three for $5), and the proceeds will be split equally between two charities chosen by the president and the student. Students can buy tickets at the Mortar Board table in the Chapel View Lounge during chapel break and from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday this week. The student’s name will be drawn April 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the Founder’s Table.
