Valpo Presents Virtual Jazz Fest on April 8

March 31, 2021 – Valparaiso, Indiana – Valparaiso University will host the virtual 2021 Jazz Fest livestream in two segments at 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. CDT on Thursday, April 8. This year’s celebration of jazz music will feature the University Jazz Ensemble, including current students, returning alumni and jazz faculty.

Returning 2020 graduates Josh Sievert, Tommy Langejans and Brian Davis will be featured with the ensemble on the second half of the program.

Anne Marie Ouverson Bice, M.M., adjunct instructor of music and vocal jazz combo instructor, will be featured on the last two songs of the first half of the performance. Ouverson Bice is a versatile singer in multiple genres and has collaborated with both the Faculty Jazz Trio and the Valparaiso University Jazz Ensemble over the past three years.

Selections to be performed include Cole Porter’s “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” Neal Hefti’s “Splanky,” Sammy Nestico’s “Hay Burner” and Benny Carter’s “Goin’ On.”

This will be the final Valparaiso University performance for Jeffrey Brown, M.M., clinical assistant professor of music, who has directed the jazz ensemble for 40 years. He founded and has produced the Valparaiso University Jazz Festival for 35 years.
