Valpo Tennis Hauls in ITA Academic Honors

The Valpo men and women were both honored as ITA All-Academic Teams. To garner that distinction, a program must have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above with all varsity letter winners factored into the cumulative team GPA for the academic year.

In addition, 10 Valpo student-athletes were named ITA Scholar-Athletes. In order to qualify for that honor, a student-athlete must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale for that academic year.

The men’s tennis team, which had the top academic performance of any men’s tennis program in the Summit League this past year, was represented by six ITA Scholar-Athletes: senior Brandon Ancona (Belvidere, Ill. / Rockford Christian), senior Franklin Brozovich (Fort Gratiot, Mich. / Port Huron Northern), senior Gabriel Carvajal (Pembroke Pines, Fla. / Broward Virtual School [Florida Atlantic]), senior Daniel Langston (Ponca City, Okla. / Ponca City), freshman Philipp Leithold (Esslingen, Germany / Theodor-Huess Gymnasium) and freshman Oscar Mendoza (Guayaquil, Ecuador / Interamerican Academy).

The women’s team featured a quartet of ITA Scholar-Athletes: junior Claire Czerwonka (Kenosha, Wis. / Saint Joseph Catholic Academy), freshman Olivia Czerwonka (Kenosha, Wis. / Saint Joseph Catholic Academy), freshman Demi Jhaveri (Westlake, Ohio / Westlake) and sophomore Isabella Schoolcraft (Bargersville, Ind. / Center Grove).
