Moving to Zoom Web Conferencing

This summer, the Office of Information Technology will be switching from Webex to Zoom for Valparaiso University’s distance learning and video conferencing platform. This means faculty will be able to use a pro-level Zoom account that will provide meetings without time constraint and up to 300 participants.

Zoom provides a simpler, more robust video conferencing experience that many faculty have preferred over Webex. Zoom also integrates with Blackboard and Google and we will be working as quickly as possible to bring these features to the faculty.

While we also support Google Meet, we’ve recognized that it has certain limitations that have prevented many faculty from using it for classes but may be a helpful tool for students looking to meet with each other virtually.

We are finalizing the setup and configuration with Zoom and will send more details on what this means for the summer and fall courses soon.

Resources and training materials for how to make the most of Zoom’s features will be forthcoming. In the meantime, if you have any questions or comments about this process or if you have purchased a Zoom license that will need to be transitioned to our campus system, please contact us at zoom@valpo.edu and we will be happy to assist.
