Valparaiso University Prepares for a Semester of Shows, Concerts, and Performances

Valparaiso University invites lovers of the arts to campus for another semester of concerts, performance, recitals, shows and festivals. Unless otherwise noted, all musical performances will be free, open to the public, and performed at the Chapel of the Resurrection. 

Saturday, Sept. 28: Valparaiso University Chorale and High School Choirs from around the region will collaborate in a 2 p.m. concert after a day of festival and workshops.

Saturday, Oct. 5: In 1925, the Lutheran University Association—a group of Lutheran clergy and laity—purchased Valparaiso University. Homecoming 2024 will mark the beginning of a year-long celebration of Valpo’s Lutheran Centennial. This event will be remembered for years to come. Imagine the Chapel of the Resurrection filled with alumni and friends of Valparaiso University singing hymns together with the leadership of a 500-voice choir, Chorale, Kantorei, Bach Choir, Chamber Concert Band, Symphony Orchestra, and organist Julie Grindle ’92, with reflections by members of the Valparaiso University community. Performance will begin at 4 p.m.

Saturday Oct. 19: The Chamber Concert Band will perform at 4 p.m. followed by the Luce Concert Band and the Community/University Concert Band at 7:30 p.m. The evening program will feature a composition arranged by Valpo alum Alex Keim about local African-American suffragist Naomi Anderson titled “Remembering Naomi.”

Thursday, Oct. 24: Trick or Treat at the Harre Union and then join the Symphony Orchestra for the third annual Halloween Spooktacular Concert at 6:30 p.m. Attendees of all ages are welcome and costumes are encouraged.

Friday, Oct. 25: Opening night for the fall theatre production, Let the Right One In. The show will run over two weekends, Oct. 25-27 and Nov. 1-3, with 8 p.m. shows on Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. matinees on Sunday. Performances will take place in the University Theatre, located inside the Valparaiso University Center for the Arts (VUCA).

Friday, Nov. 1:  Join us for an Evensong led by the Kantorei in commemoration of All Saints Day. The event will begin at 5 p.m. 

Wednesday, Nov. 13: The VU New Music Ensemble will perform in the Duesenberg Recital Hall at the Valparaiso University Center for the Arts (VUCA) at 7:30 p.m.

Tuesday, Nov. 19: The Jazz Ensemble will take the stage at the University Theatre at the VUCA at 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Nov. 20: Join faculty and students for a New Play Festival in Duesenberg Recital Hall at the VUCA at 7:30 p.m.A list of holiday concerts and performances will be released later in the semester.
