Valparaiso University and Ivy Tech Community College Introduce Seamless Dual-Admission

Graduation

Valparaiso University and Ivy Tech Community College have entered into a Dual Admission Partnership Agreement (DAP) that will create a new, user-friendly pathway to campus for a wider audience of prospective students. The agreement is in line with the University’s dedication to creating an environment where students of diverse backgrounds are able to learn and thrive, as described in Uplift Valpo: Our Beacon for the Journey Forward.

“I look forward to working with Ivy Tech as we enhance the education of exceptional young people in our region,” said Jose D. Padilla, J.D., president of Valparaiso University. “This partnership will play a major role in educating and retaining a diverse array of professionals that will benefit the community.”

Students that are accepted into the DAP will be admitted into both Ivy Tech and Valpo at the same time, and will transition seamlessly to Valpo after earning their associate degree from Ivy Tech. During this time, they will receive academic advising from both institutions, and will create an entire degree plan at the start of their time at Ivy Tech. If they meet the criteria, they will also receive a Valpo transfer scholarship of $23,000 per year (fall and spring).

While attending Ivy Tech, students who are part of the DAP will have a Valpo email, student ID card, and eligibility to participate in Valpo programs such as athletic events, theatre productions, concerts, and the library system. On-campus housing may be provided to students in the DAP based on factors including availability.

“This is a wonderful new partnership for Ivy Tech Community College and Valparaiso University. This partnership is a testament to our commitment to providing students with a seamless and supportive college experience. We are thrilled about this outstanding opportunity offered to our students across Northwest Indiana and beyond. Our goal has always been to meet students where they are and deliver higher education at the speed of life. This agreement is a significant step towards that goal, and we couldn’t be more excited to walk hand in hand with Valparaiso University on this path,” said Campus Chancellor at Ivy Tech’s Valparaiso Campus, Aco Sikoski.

Entrance Torch

To be eligible, students must be accepted into Ivy Tech and complete a Dual Admission application for both institutions. They must earn their associate degree from Ivy Tech and complete a transfer application to a degree program at Valpo. Students may not attend any other institution between their time at Ivy Tech and Valpo., and will have to re-apply if there is a break of more than one regular fall or spring semester in their attendance at either institution.

The DAP is not the only way Valpo and Ivy Tech have partnered to create better regional opportunities for students. In April of 2022, the schools announced an articulation agreement for students looking to transfer into specific programs and, just six months later, President Padilla committed substantial financial support to Ivy Tech Chancellors’ Scholarship recipients.
