Valparaiso University Researchers Prepare for 25th SOURCE Conference

April 21, 2023 – Valparaiso, Indiana – The 25th Symposium on Undergraduate Research and Creative Expression (SOURCE) will take place at Valparaiso University on Thursday, April 27, 2023 beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Harre Union. More than 175 students will share their research projects, scholarly work and creative endeavors with the community. The event is free and open to the public.

Sessions will include an alumni panel discussion, an awards ceremony, and oral and poster presentations of artistic expression, historical and cultural studies, solar energy research, experimental nuclear physics, innovative battery technology, observational astronomy and much more. SOURCE is a fantastic opportunity for members of the Valparaiso community to benefit from research happening at the University as well as an immense benefit for students gaining relevant experience in their field.

“Students engaged in research experiences and works of creative expression benefit in many ways,” says Stan Zygmunt, Ph.D., professor of physics and astronomy. “Under the guidance of a faculty mentor, they dig deeply into a topic they are interested in and seek new ways of understanding the world. This gives them renewed motivation and engagement with their academic coursework and a clearer understanding of what it will be like to work in their chosen field.”

SOURCE began in 1999 as the Celebration of Undergraduate Scholarship, and has featured the work of over 2,700 students since its inception. The event is held in conjunction with the Graduate Academic Symposium and features work from the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business, College of Engineering, College of Nursing and Health Professions and Christ College — The Honors College.
