Valparaiso University’s Design Expo Returns to Live Presentations this Saturday

April 27, 2022 – Valparaiso, Indiana – Valparaiso University’s College of Engineering will host the 2022 Engineering Design Expo this Saturday, April 30, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Gellersen Center and Fites Innovation Center. The event is an opportunity for the community to get a live look at the exciting work being done by this year’s senior design teams.

“We’re very excited to return to an in-person design expo again this year,” says Doug Tougaw ’05 MBA, Ph.D., P.E., dean of the College of Engineering. “I believe that the larger community benefits from the opportunity to learn more about engineering and to see the extraordinary work that our students do each year.”

Projects being featured at this year’s event include a cutting-edge traffic and incident monitoring system. Built for joint use by the Valparaiso University Police Department (CUPD) and the civil engineering department, the device will be used to monitor campus events, intersections and suspicious activity, as well as for research purposes. The system’s mast can be raised up to 30 feet and has enough hard drive space to record and store over two weeks of footage.

The 2022 Design Expo is open to the public and includes a free cookout. For more information, please contact Georges El-Howayek, Ph.D., associate professor of electrical and computer engineering at georges.el-howayek@valpo.edu.
