Valparaiso University Names University Organist

Valparaiso University announces Sunghee Kim, D.M., has been named University organist in addition to assistant professor of church music and organ. Kim has served as visiting assistant professor of music and interim University organist at Valparaiso University for the past three years.

In her role as organist, Kim will be responsible for planning worship services, playing for worship and events at the Chapel of the Resurrection, supervising student musicians at the Chapel and directing Kantorei, the Chapel choir, as well as teaching organ and piano.

“We look forward to the musicianship and dedication Professor Kim will bring to the Chapel of the Resurrection and the Department of Music in her new position,” said Rick Gillman, D.A., interim provost. “Professor Kim’s expertise with piano and organ performance and education will help Valpo stay at the forefront of church music for years to come.”

Kim is an accomplished organist and former first-prize winner in the Fort Wayne National Organ Competition. Prior to coming to Valpo, she served in a faculty appointment at Pennsylvania State University at Abington and as director of music at Concordia Lutheran Church in Wilmington, Delaware, and Pleasant View Lutheran Church in Indianapolis. Kim holds a doctor of music from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, and degrees from the University of North Texas and Ewha Women’s University in Seoul, South Korea.
