Men’s Tennis Receives Summit League Team Academic Award, Five Valpo Student-Athletes Named to Commissioner’s List
The Valparaiso University men’s tennis program was recognized for its academic success during the 2019-2020 academic and athletic year on Wednesday as Valpo received the Team Academic Achievement Award from the Summit League.
The honor is presented to the Summit League team in each sport that has the highest percentage of list-eligibility student-athletes on the Commissioner’s List for Academic Excellence. In addition, four members of the men’s tennis program and one men’s swimmer were named to the 2019-20 Summit League Commissioner’s List.
Senior biology/chemistry major Brendon Johnson (Northbrook, Ill. / Glenbrook North) represented the Valpo swim program on the list, while the men’s tennis senior quartet of Daniel Langston (Ponca City, Okla. / Ponca City), Gabriel Carvajal (Pembroke Pines, Fla. / Broward Virtual School [Florida Atlantic]), Franklin Brozovich (Fort Gratiot, Mich. / Port Huron Northern) and Brandon Ancona (Belvidere, Ill. / Rockford Christian) all received the honor. Langston majored in finance, Carvajal in data science, Brozovich in exercise science and Ancona in computer science.
In order for a student-athlete to be selected to the Commissioner’s List, the student-athlete must carry a 3.50 or better cumulative grade point average, have used a year of eligibility and have completed one academic year at the nominating institution. Earlier this week, 14 Valpo student-athletes received spots on the Summit League Honor Roll.
