Brauer Museum of Art at Valpo Announces 2019–2020 Season

Opening Reception is Sept. 6

The 2019–2020 season at the Brauer Museum of Art will begin with an opening reception on Friday, Sept. 6, featuring a variety of new exhibitions.

Fall exhibitions include “Betty LaDuke: Social Justice Revisited: Remembering • Reliving • Resisting,” “Su Kwak: The Cosmic Light Series” and “Mark Fletcher: Winking Turtle, Whispering Tree.”

To accompany these exhibitions, the Brauer will host a student coffee hour with Betty LaDuke at a time and date to be announced in the future, a gallery talk with Su Kwak on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m., a music performance of “Landscapes: Music Inspired by the Paintings of Frederic Edwin Church” performed by the Faculty Chamber Music Group on Thursday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. and a gallery talk with Mark Fletcher and curator Seojeong Shin on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. These events are free and open to the public.

The winter exhibitions debut on Jan. 7 with “C. Curry Bohm: Brown County and Beyond,” “Spectral Speculations: Japanese Prints from the Ruth A. Ruege Collection,” and “Mary Bourke: Unfinished.”

In the spring semester, the film/lecture series, “Thursday Night Noir” returns with film screenings and discussions that will study the classic film genre of the 1940s and 1950s. Four movies will be featured by the creator of the series, Peter Aglinskas. All events are free and open to the public, with the first movie screening taking place on Jan. 16. The Valparaiso University Juried Art Student and Art Faculty Exhibitions return in April, with original pieces from both students and faculty on campus. The summer exhibitions will include “Jan Sullivan’s Nature: Works by the Founder of Art Barn School of Art,” selections from Brauer’s permanent collection, and new acquisitions.
