New Acquisitions Highlight Summer Exhibitions at Brauer Museum of Art

Summer exhibitions are now on display at Valparaiso University’s Brauer Museum of Art and run through Aug. 4. All Brauer Museum exhibitions and events are free and open to the public.

The summer shows offer an opportunity to view the Brauer’s newest acquisitions, selections from the permanent collection, and works by artists Corey Hagelberg and Brabant Lenting.

Corey Hagelberg is a co-founder of The Calumet Artist Residency, which facilitates relationships between artists and the Gary, Indiana, community by providing temporary workspaces, housing, exhibition space, and information to artists. In his work, Hagelberg seeks to emphasize and embrace opposites and contradictions in everyday experiences.

John “Brabant” Lenting has been a professional artist since 1976. His work in mixed media utilizes various types of printmaking papers like canvas, combined with the use of various acrylic, industrial, and oil finishes. A native of the Netherlands, Lenting worked at the Art Institute in Chicago for 17 years and has collaborated with artists across various mediums around the world.

The Brauer Museum’s collection contains more than 4,000 works of art from the mid-19th century to the present, as well as world religious art and Midwestern regional art. Paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, and photographs comprise the collection.

Gregg Hertzlieb, director and curator of the Brauer Museum of Art, will host a gallery talk on Wednesday, July 10, at 7 p.m. Throughout the season, the Brauer Museum hosts events with artists, curators, and art collectors. Admission to the museum and its events is free, with donations welcome.

During the summer, the museum will be open from noon until 5 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday, and closed on Monday.
