Seven Valpo Athletics Programs Earn NCAA Recognition

Seven athletic programs from Valparaiso University have received the NCAA Public Recognition Award for outstanding academic performance.

The NCAA announced that Valpo’s men’s golf, men’s tennis, women’s basketball, women’s cross country, women’s golf, women’s soccer and women’s tennis programs have each received the honor. The women’s cross country team has earned the honor each of the last eight years, while women’s golf and women’s tennis have received the award the last five years. The men’s golf program has received public recognition each of the last four years as well.

The award is presented to teams that have an NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate in the top 10 percent of all teams in their respective sport. The calculation of APR tracks the academic progress of each student-athlete and includes eligibility, retention and graduation.

The awards continue to highlight the success that Valpo student-athletes achieve in the classroom. Last month, 133 student-athletes received Presidential Academic Honors in recognition of earning a term GPA of 3.25 or higher for at least two consecutive semesters at Valpo.
