Valparaiso University’s Clinical Mental Health Program Granted CACREP Accreditation
Valparaiso University is proud to announce that the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Programs (CACREP) has re-accredited the Graduate School’s clinical mental health and counseling (CMHC) program through March 2021. The program has maintained continuous accreditation since 2009.
The master of arts in CMHC program prepares students for rewarding careers as a licensed mental health counselor. Places they may work include private practice, drug and alcohol treatment centers, hospitals, family therapy centers, community agencies, crisis centers and trauma recovery centers.
Once admitted to the 60-credit graduate program, students will receive one-on-one attention from faculty and gain hands-on experience with a practicum and three different internship placements. After graduation, students will be prepared to pursue state licensure and begin a career as a licensed professional counselor.
Full-time students can complete this program in just over two years, which is on average one year more quickly than similar CACREP programs. They are then eligible to take the NCE during their final spring semester, which significantly reduces time to licensure post graduation.
Valpo undergraduate students can receive admission to enroll into this graduate program senior year.
