Public meeting with Indiana State Superintendent to be held at Valparaiso University, Sept. 11

Valparaiso University’s Professional Educators Partnership (PEP) and the Department of Education on Sept. 11 will host a fall 2017 Teacher and Community Public Meeting with Jennifer McCormick, superintendent of public instruction for the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE).

The meeting is scheduled from 5:30 to 7 p.m. (CT) at the Community Room, Christopher Center, Valparaiso University, 1410 Chapel Drive, Valparaiso.

During the meeting, McCormick will discuss educational initiatives and provide updates. It will also provide the opportunity for McCormick to address Indiana’s approach in the areas of: accountability and school improvement, long-term goals, partnerships and consultation, assessment, supporting educators and students, academics, and school funding. Additionally, the meeting will include time for questions and answers.

Participation is free and open to the general public. Educators, parents, community members and educational stakeholders are encouraged to attend. Registration is required through the IDOE at valpo.edu/PEP.

The Professional Educators Partnership provides teachers resources, through one-day workshops, to help them stay in touch with current research and develop technology and best practices. The PEP’s next workshop is scheduled Oct. 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. (CT) and will feature literacy experts and authors Jan Burkins and Kim Yaris.  They will present best practices from their most recent publications, “Who’s Doing the Work?
