Pulitzer Prize Winning Photojournalist Scott Strazzante Comes to Valparaiso University March 22

WHO: Scott Strazzante, who was part of the Chicago Tribune team that won a Pulitzer Prize in 2007 for investigative journalism, will visit Valparaiso University’s campus for a free, public lecture.

Strazzante has covered sports, disasters, culture and corruption throughout his 30-year career. An 11-time Illinois Photographer of the Year, Strazzante previously worked for the Herald News in Joliet, Ill., and the Chicago Tribune for 13 years before joining the photography staff of the San Francisco Chronicle in 2014.

He is the author of “Common Ground,” a visual exploration of place, labor, family and home in the changing landscape of northern Illinois. By the time it was published in 2014, the 23-year-long personal project had already generated award-winning print, digital and video productions featured in National Geographic, Mother Jones, the New York Times Lens Blog and on CBS News “Sunday Morning.” Strazzante’s second book, “Shooting from the Hip,” will be published late summer 2017.

WHAT: In a lecture titled “Finding Common Ground,” Strazzante will share images and experiences of his career as a newspaper photographer and discuss how he cultivated his unique vision. The son of two Valpo alumni, Strazzante has captured the whimsy, irony, struggle and strength of everyday America for the past 30 years.

The lecture is free and open to the public, and reservations are not required.
