Brauer Museum of Art at Valpo Welcomes Summer Exhibitions

The Brauer Museum of Art at Valparaiso University premieres its summer exhibitions, which run through Aug. 7, with an opening reception on Friday, May 20, at 7 p.m.

Works by the Area Artists Association of Michigan City are on display in the Wehling and McGill Galleries in an exhibition titled “An Artist’s Journey.” Part of the Jack and Shirley Lubeznik Center for the Arts, this organization recognizes and encourages active regional artists and aims to increase appreciation and recognition of their work. The Brauer Museum will host a gallery talk with the Area Artists Association on Wednesday, July 20, at 7 p.m.

The Brauer Museum’s West Gallery features new acquisitions, in a variety of media, to the museum’s world-renowned collection.

In Gallery 1212, the Brauer Museum showcases 11 paintings from various periods of Frank V. Dudley’s career that highlight the fine works acquired throughout the years by Midwest collector James Moeller. In celebration of the State of Indiana’s 200-year anniversary, this exhibition seeks to reflect through Dudley’s art the timeless quality of the Indiana Dunes.

The Brauer’s small Ferguson Gallery will house “Warhol and Wilhelmina: The Ladies and Gentlemen Series,” an exhibition curated by Kevvie Simonsen that explores a particular theme in Andy Warhol’s work.

Finally, in the large Ferguson Gallery, Sloan Gallery and Education Room, the Brauer Museum presents selections from the permanent collection.
