Polar Plunge at Valpo held on Feb. 20

WHO:  Valparaiso University and the Special Olympics of Indiana come together for the 2016 Polar Plunge, an event raising awareness and funds to sponsor the Special Olympics throughout the state. This is the sixth year the University will host the event.

WHAT: The Polar Plunge invites participants who have raised $75 or more to jump into a pool of freezing water. Participants are encouraged to dress up in costumes, and prizes will be given to those who have the best costume, the largest team, and who raised the most money for Special Olympics Indiana. The event is open to the public and free to watch.

This event also includes an After Splash Bash party at Hilltop Gym in the Athletics–Recreation Center where hot food and beverages will be available. Entrance into the After Splash Bash for Plungers and event volunteers is free. For fans and spectators, there will be a $5 admittance fee.

All funds raised through the Polar Plunge go toward training and athletic competition for more than 11,000 Special Olympics Indiana Athletes.

Participants are encouraged to pre-register online for the Polar Plunge at www.soindiana.org.

WHEN: Saturday, Feb. 20, noon – 1 p.m. for on-site registration (including walk-ups). The Plunge begins at 1:15 p.m.
