Valpo Institute for Leadership and Service Announces Spring 2016 Speaker Series

Valparaiso University’s Institute for Leadership and service announces its Spring 2016 Pathways to Purpose speaker series featuring speakers and topics focusing on professional development.

The speaker series primarily features field experts and service-based leaders. Each event will take place at 5:30 p.m. in the Helge Center unless otherwise noted.

Topics include:

      • “Service Year Confidential,” Jan. 19. Insider perspectives are offered on the pros and cons of post-collegiate service programs.
      • Stuart Diamond: “Build an Unbelievable Resume,” Jan. 27. Stuart Diamond, founder and president of Empowered Media, is an accomplished composer and producer and serves on the board for the California Institute of Integral Studies.
      • Carolyn Woo: “Common Good, Uncommon Excellence,” Feb. 11, 6:30 p.m., Duesenberg Recital Hall. President and CEO of Catholic Relief Services, Carolyn Woo has been recognized as the nation’s leader in business ethics education during her time as dean of the Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame.
      • Eddie Melton: “Leadership Isn’t a 9-5 Job,” Feb. 25. Eddie Melton is the Governmental and Community Relations Manager for NIPSCO and serves on a number of community groups and boards in northwest Indiana.
      • Jim Walker: “Placemaking 101,” March 17. Jim Walker is the founder of BigCar, an organization focused on encouraging creativity and unity in neighborhoods and other public places
      • Derrick Feldmann: “Social Movements for Good,” March 29. Author of “Cause for Change: The Why and How of Nonprofit Millennial Engagement,” Derrick Feldmann is the creator and lead researcher of The Millennial Impact Project.
      • Anna DeLuna: “Who is Worthy of Our Innovation?” April 6. Anna DeLuna is the director of business development at Edovo Jail Education Solutions, an organization focusing on providing education to incarcerated individuals to help them better assimilate back into society.
      • James Clarke: “A Vision For Global Health,” April 19. Ophthalmologist and humanitarian James Clarke has international experience leading Unite for Sight’s programs in Ghana, an organization providing eye care around the world.
