Valparaiso University Hosts Annual Northwestern Indiana Science and Engineering Fair Feb. 21
Valparaiso University will host the 62nd annual Northwestern Indiana Science and Engineering Fair Feb. 21 in the Harre Union Ballroom, bringing together students from schools in Porter, LaPorte, Starke, Jasper, Newton, and Pulaski counties. The event highlights the importance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics through exciting events for middle school and high school students.
Volunteers are sought from the community to judge the competition in various categories. Professional expertise and experience qualifies community members to be judges.
Categories include:
- Animal sciences
- Behavioral and social sciences
- Biochemistry
- Cellular and molecular biology
- Chemistry
- Computer science
- Earth and planetary science
- Engineering: electrical and mechanical
- Engineering: materials and bioengineering
- Energy and transportation
- Environmental management
- Environmental sciences
- Mathematical sciences
- Medicine and health sciences
- Microbiology
- Physics and astronomy
- Plant sciences
Volunteer judges are needed Feb. 22 from 7:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with orientation, breakfast, and lunch provided.
The science fair students will compete for awards, cash prices and the opportunity to advance to state and national competitions.
