Valparaiso University Hosts Annual Northwestern Indiana Science and Engineering Fair Feb. 22

Valparaiso University will host the 61st annual Northwestern Indiana Science and Engineering Fair Feb. 22, bringing together students from schools in Porter, LaPorte, Starke, Jasper, Newton, and Pulaski counties. The event highlights the importance of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through exciting events for middle school and high school students.

Volunteers are sought from the community to judge the competition in various categories. Professional expertise and experience qualifies community members to be judges. Professionals with experience in the following categories are sought:

  • Animal Science
  • Behavioral and Social Science
  • Biochemistry
  • Cellular and Molecular Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Computer Science
  • Earth and Planetary Science
  • Engineering: Electrical, Mechanical
  • Materials and Bioengineering
  • Energy and Transportation
  • Environmental Management
  • Environmental Science
  • Mathematical Science
  • Medicine and Health Science
  • Microbiology
  • Physics and Astronomy
  • Plant Science

Volunteer judges are needed Feb. 22 from 7:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with orientation, breakfast, and lunch provided.

The science fair students will compete for awards, cash prices, and the opportunity to advance to state and national competitions.
