Valparaiso University Announces College of Nursing Expansion
The College of Nursing at Valparaiso University is now the College of Nursing and Health Professions. As Valpo continues to bolster its degree offerings to meet the changing needs of the modern, dynamic health care environment, this expansion represents an exciting new chapter in the College’s 45-year history.
In recent years, Valparaiso University has expanded its health sciences degree offerings to include a bachelor of science in health care leadership, a master’s degree in health administration, and a master’s degree in international human services and counseling.
“For 45 years, Valpo has been educating nurses and will continue to do that in the excellent manner that has come to be expected. The new College is poised to expand its mission work with external partners to bring the best programming, evidence, and interventions in health to our communities,” said Janet Brown, dean of the College of Nursing and Health Professions. She added that effective health care requires several disciplines to work together as a team.
The College of Nursing and Health Professions is on track to launch a new, accelerated joint Bachelor of Science in Health Science and Master of Physician Assistant Studies program that will allow students to become fully certified physician assistants in just five years.
Valparaiso University will be one of the first universities to offer nursing and public health within one college. It is one step toward reflecting the University’s intent to transform the way students comprehend and utilize science and the scientific approach.
“The challenges in health care continue to grow, and the need for an educated health care workforce is greater than ever. We believe that Valpo can contribute remarkably to build this well-educated workforce,” Brown said.
