Valparaiso University Graduate School to Host Africa Fest

Valparaiso University Graduate School and Continuing Studies is sponsoring Africa Fest on Friday, Sept. 7, with festivities starting at 4 p.m. The event marks the continued progress of Valpo in establishing a Sub-Saharan African Institute on campus.

This year the festival will focus on Nigeria, and will celebrate the impact and value of African culture on the Global Community. Join us for a panel discussion on Nigerian culture, economy, and arts, and be in the company of our invited Nigerian dignitaries. There will be a Nigerian Village Market, educational tables, and writers and scholars, as well as hair braiding, face painting, and crafts for children.

The event will culminate in a closing Gala Dinner from 6 to 8:30 p.m., featuring dishes such as chin chin, meat pie, and plantains, and entertainment that includes dancers, drummers, and a fashion show. Events will take place in the Harre Union, located on the Valparaiso University campus, and are open to the public. Tickets are required for the Gala Dinner, and cost $15 for adults and $7 for children under 12 years.

Join the Valparaiso University Graduate School in bringing awareness and understanding of African culture to the Great Lakes and South Shore regions and learn about the positive contributions of African culture, talent, and arts to the world. Tickets are limited; register online today at valpo.edu/grad/forms/africafest.php.
