Chinese New Year celebration features food, performances

Valparaiso University is celebrating the beginning of 2012 with the Chinese New Year Celebration on Tuesday, Jan. 24. The festivities are from 6:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. in the Ballrooms of the Harre Union. This year’s event is co-sponsored by Valparaiso University Chinese and Japanese Studies Program, Confucius Institute at Valparaiso University, and Chinese Students and Scholars Association.

Students, faculty, staff, and the Valparaiso community are invited to attend this event, which includes dinner from 6:15 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. Guests will enjoy spicy beef, Gongbao chicken, fried rice, vegetable delights, and much more. After dinner, Dr. Liu Jiangang will proceed with his introduction at 7:15 p.m. and a special performance by Lou Hongbin, Lin Huifen, Wang Xiaohong from Zhejiang University of Technology follows at 7:25 p.m. The last event of the night is at 7:35 p.m. with a performance by Chinese New Year Performing Troupe of the Central Conservatory of Music of China.
