Brauer Museum catalogue honored

The Brauer Museum of Art received an honorable mention for its exhibition catalogue, an entry in the 2011 American Association of Museums (AAM) Museum Publications Design Competition. The competition will be featured in a section of the November/December issue of “Museum,” AAM’s bi-monthly membership magazine.

“AAM is an important organization in the museum field,” said Gregg Hertzlieb, Brauer Museum’s director and curator. “An award of any type or recognition in general from this national organization is quite an honor.”

The catalogue, “Heeding the Voice of Heaven: Sadao Watanabe Biblical Stencil Prints,” was designed by The Grillo Group, Inc. of Chicago. The Grillo Group has designed three AAM award-winning publications for the Brauer Museum since 2009, including “American Railroad China: Image and Experience” and “The Calumet Region: An American Place.”

“All three of these books extend the reach of the Brauer Museum and communicate the idea that the Brauer is committed to original research on the careers of particular artists and works that we display here or have in our collection,” said Hertzlieb.

The museum began to collect Watanabe’s prints in 1975. The collection now comprises 64 pieces.

The books are available for $39.95 in the University Bookstore, at the Center for the Arts administrative offices, and online.
