Donations collected for Japan relief

The Japanese Club, with the help of the Chinese and Japanese Studies Program, VISA and SALT, is collecting donations for disaster relief after the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Students are collecting donations at a table in the Harre Union during lunch (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and dinner (5 p.m. to 8 p.m.) each day this week.

Donations will be split between the Red Cross and Lutheran World Relief. Receipts are available on request.

In Japan there is a tradition of folding a wreath of 1,000 paper cranes to have a wish granted. Participants will fold a wreath of cranes as a symbol of hope and sympathy. Paper and instructions for folding cranes will be available for anyone interested in helping with the wreath. You are also welcome to make cranes on your own and drop them off at the donation tables.

In addition, donations will be collected before Saturday’s performance by the Bach Collegium Japan on Saturday, March 19. That collection will be from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the entrance to the Chapel of the Resurrection.
