Host of music events to celebrate holiday season

Valparaiso University will celebrate the Christmas season during the month of December with several musical performances, highlighted by the annual Valpo Christmas Concert featuring the University’s premier choral and instrumental ensembles.

Holiday performances taking place in December are:

• Dec. 3 and 4 – Valparaiso University Christmas Concert, “A Carol Festival,” featuring the University’s premier choral and instrumental ensembles. Concerts at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 3 and 5 p.m. Dec. 4 in the Chapel of the Resurrection. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for senior citizens and students, and free for Valpo faculty, staff and students.
• Dec. 5 – TubaChristmas, featuring Valpo faculty, staff, students and community members who play the tuba, euphonium, baritone, tenor and sousaphone horns or other low brass instruments. Concert at 2:30 p.m. in the Chapel of the Resurrection; admission is free and open to the public.
• Dec. 5 – Julefest, a Christmas pops concert featuring Valpo’s Luce Concert Band and the Community/University Concert Band. Concert is at 4 p.m. in the Center for the Arts. Admission is free and open to the public.
• Dec. 7 – The Valparaiso University Gospel Choir will perform a Christmas praise service at 6 p.m. in the Christopher Center Community Room. The performance is free and open to the public.
• Dec. 10 – VuVox, Valpo’s male a cappella chorus, will perform its fall concert at 7 p.m. in the Harre Union Ballroom. Admission is free and open to the public.
• Dec. 10 – Advent Christmas Vespers, traditional services featuring music and readings of the Advent season with performances by Valpo’s Kantorei Choir, Handbell Choir of the Chapel of the Resurrection and other student and faculty musicians. Performances are at 7 and 10 p.m. in the Chapel of the Resurrection and are free and open to the public. • Dec. 11 – The Handbell Choir of the Chapel of the Resurrection will perform its annual Christmas concert, featuring sacred and secular music of the season, at 8 p.m. in the Chapel of the Resurrection’s Gloria Christi Chapel. The concert is free and open to the public.
• Dec. 18 – The Bach Institute at Valparaiso University will perform Handel’s “Messiah” (Part 1) and Bach’s “Christmas Oratorio” (Part 1) at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of the Resurrection. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for senior citizens and students and free for Valpo faculty, staff and students.
