Employee of the Month
Daniel Haynes, Director of Maintenance, was selected as the September 2023 SEAC Employee of the Month.
Nominators spoke about Daniels’ dedication to teamwork, service to others, and
commitment to Valparaiso University:
“Dan is someone I can go to when I need something done and I know he’s going to take care of it. With the fast pace and unknowns of projects around here its comforting know{ing} I can count on Dan and his team every time. I literally don’t know what we would do without him.”
“Dan is respected by his department because he doesn’t just supervise – he gets in and gets his hands dirty to get the job done! Since our department is short-staffed, Dan takes the time to teach the less-experienced. Since Dan has an extensive background in HVAC, you will often see him assisting during an air conditioner or furnace replacement, changing out fluorescent lights to LED lighting, and even providing plumbing assistance.
Among unseen heating/cooling upgrades, Dan was instrumental in replacing draperies with roller shades in Wehrenberg, Alumni, and Lankenau dorms. He recently had the lighting in G/M replaced with new LED fixtures.
You will often see Dan driving around campus before and after normal working hours. He is forward thinking, and his compassion for keeping students and staff safe and comfortable are conveyed in his desire to improve, rather than maintain, each building on campus.”
“Dan is someone who is committed to the entire campus communities experience on campus.
Wherever help is needed you can find a trace of Dan and his team somewhere when needed. Often a thankless job on an old campus where maintenance work is overshadowed by the general aging of buildings and facilities, Dan does a great job of handling those challenges adapting and overcoming in order to make the Valpo Experience a great one for all who visit.
Dan puts time in 24/7 whether it’s a University holiday, a break session, or his own vacation. His dedication to students, faculty, staff, and his team are admirable. He is a true Valpo Beacon!”
