Foundation Members

The following individuals are recognized as Foundation Members of Eta of Indiana Chapter for displaying a commitment to the study of liberal arts and sciences through their scholarship and for achievements which embody the standards of Phi Beta Kappa:

Richard Baepler

A former professor of theology and law who served a variety of administrative roles at Valparaiso University, Richard Baepler was an early advocate of the importance of the University’s affiliation with organizations such as Phi Beta Kappa. A distinguished scholar and author, he most recently wrote Flame of Faith, Lamp of Learning: A History of Valparaiso University. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis and a doctorate from the University of Chicago.

Richard Duesenberg

Richard Duesenberg earned bachelor’s and law degrees from Valparaiso University and a master’s in law from Yale Law School. After serving on the law faculty at New York University, he began a long association with Monsanto Co., retiring in 1995 as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary. He later was a visiting law professor at St. Louis University. He is a lifelong advocate of the arts as evidenced in both his leadership and his philanthropy.

Heather Mitchell Johnson

Heather (Mitchell) Johnson earned her doctor of medicine degree from Yale Medical School after exemplifying the breadth of learning prized by Phi Beta Kappa by earning majors in chemistry and Spanish at Valparaiso University. She is a distinguished physician with a specialty in obstetrics and gynecology, and a senior partner at Reiter, Hill & Johnson, an Advantia practice, located in the Washington, D.C., area. She is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She served in the U.S. Army for eight years prior to going into private practice in 1987. She is the author of two books: “What They Don’t Tell You About Having A Baby: An Obstetrician’s Unofficial Guide to Preconception, Pregnancy, and Postpartum Life,” and “What They Don’t Tell You About Menopause: A Gynecologist’s Unofficial Guide to Premenopausal, Perimenopausal and Postmenopausal Life.”

Lillian Peters Mullin

After earning her bachelor’s degree at Valparaiso University and a master’s at the University of Chicago, Lillian Mullin began a career in public service as a cartographer with the Army Chief of Staff. She later served the Department of State in the Netherlands, Bermuda, Canada and Germany and was Counselor of Embassy in Macedonia. She has helped organize Elderhostels in Washington, D.C., and is recipient of a National Alumni Service Award from the American Foreign Service Association.

Andrew Rodovich

Andrew Rodovich is magistrate judge for the United States District Court, Northern District of Indiana. He previously was chief deputy prosecutor in Lake County, Indiana. Earlier he was a referee in Hammond, Indiana, City Court and partner in a Hammond law firm. Judge Rodovich is a member of the Board of Directors of the Hammond Education Foundation. He earned his bachelor’s degree with a major in political science and his law degree from Valparaiso University.
