Faculty
Valpo students benefit from close interaction with talented mathematicians and statisticians who are deeply committed to teaching.
List of Faculty and Staff
Mathematics and statistics professors at Valpo are engaged teachers who challenge students to achieve their potential. By getting to know each of their students personally in small classes, faculty members are able to provide excellent mentoring as well as individualized instruction. Participating in local, regional, and national workshops is one of many ways professors constantly improve their teaching skills and stay current with trends in undergraduate education. Many professors involve students in undergraduate research projects that incorporate both teaching and research and provide participating students an intimate look at the world of mathematics and statistics.
Faculty members are active professionally, with individuals involved in the American Mathematical Society (AMS), the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), and the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM). They have a correspondingly wide variety of scholarly interests, ranging from mathematics education, mathematical modeling, and pure mathematics to statistics, actuarial science, and biological and epidemiological mathematics.
Significantly, the faculty is a highly collegial group of people who treat each other, their students, and their professional peers with respect. They work hard to listen to each other and to support each other’s needs, goals, and plans. Many are active leaders on University committees and also leaders in the Valparaiso community.
