MST ranks in 2019 Putnam competition
In December, 4,229 students from 570 institutions across the country participated in the William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition, including a number of Valparaiso University mathematics majors.
The Putnam exam is challenging, with a national median score of 0 or 1 each year (out of a maximum 120 possible points). Besides individual scores, each school has the ability to designate a team of three participants whose scores combine for an institutional score.
For the 2019 competition, Valparaiso’s official Putnam team, consisting of Michael Bukata, Eric Burkholder, and Eric Yager, ranked 131 out of 488 institutional teams!
