Professors Robert Knowles and Professor Jeremy Telman, presented their paper, "Foreign Affairs Originalism and Kiobel" and Professor Sy Moskowitz presented his paper, "The Rehnquist-Roberts Court: Procedural Rules Mask Ideological Results" at the Fourth Annual Constitutional Law Colloquium held at Loyola University Chicago School of Law on November 1-2.

On Sunday, November 3rd, Professor Rebecca Huss appeared on WNIT's public television's Politically Speaking "Pets or Property? The Politics of Animal Rights" hosted by Elizabeth Bennion.

Valparaiso University Appoints Dean to Law School
Nationally Renowned Capital Defense Expert to Join Faculty in June 2014

Valparaiso University announces Andrea D. Lyon, J.D., will join its faculty as dean of the Law School, effective June 2, 2014. Most recently, Lyon has served as the associate dean for clinical programs at DePaul University College of Law in Chicago.

In her role as dean, Lyon will be responsible for the strategic leadership, coordination and guidance of the Law School. Lyon brings an accomplished record of both teaching and practicing law, and she is a national expert in criminal defense.

"Andrea Lyon has been affiliated with outstanding law schools and is well known in the state of Illinois for her exemplary work on the death penalty," said Mark R. Schwehn, Ph.D., provost and executive vice president for academic affairs. "She brings to the Valparaiso University Law School an excellent record of achievement in clinical education." ... Criminal Procedure Class Visit to Indianapolis
On Friday, November 15, approximately 30 Criminal Procedure students will visit Indianapolis to spend time with Indiana Supreme Court Justices; Attorney General and Assistants; Federal and State trial Judges; the United States Attorney, Marion County Prosecutor; and the state and federal public defender offices. The students will with meet alums during lunch and during the evening. This is the 5th year of an annual trip through Professor Carter's Criminal Procedure class.

Pets for Vets 5K Run/Walk

Help a Vet Get a Pet is a program run by the Valparaiso Law School’s Military and Veterans Law Association (MVLA). The program raises funds to pay for the adoption fee of veterans who desire to adopt a pet. The program also partners with trainers so that a dog can be trained to aid veterans with PTSD. All proceeds from the 5k will go directly to Help a Vet Get a Pet. The purpose of the run is to generate funds to cover the cost to veterans when adopting pets from rescue animal shelters. ...
