Faculty & Staff Groups

Valpo University Students

The Language and Intercultural Learning Center facilities intercultural learning opportunities to support Valparaiso University faculty and staff development in the area of intercultural competence.

Winter Reading Group

In January, LINC will host an informal, short-term winter reading group for faculty and staff to discuss Americanah, a novel by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Participants will read the entire book over the winter break and then gather once or twice in mid- to late-January to talk about the novel. LINC reading groups highlight texts that explore intercultural perspectives.

If you are interested in participating in the LINC winter reading group, contact Carol Goss, ideally by December 18. Details on potential January discussion dates will be shared with those who indicate their intention to participate.

Podcast Parlor – Spring 2025

LINC hosts Podcast Parlor, an occasional group for faculty and staff interested in discussing matters of language and intercultural perspectives. This is a flexible group – attend any or all discussions, depending on your availability and interest in the podcast topic. For spring discussion dates and episode links, visit Podcast Parlor.

IDI Planning Group – Spring 2025

If you’re a faculty or staff member who has completed the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI), you are invited to join a Community of Practice to help you begin your IDI Plan. The first IDI planning group discussion is scheduled to begin in late January; the group will meet bi-weekly or monthly January through April. If you are interested in participating in this group, contact Carol Goss, ideally by December 18.
