Surplus & Moves

Currently, surplus is stored in the Brandt/Wehrenberg loading dock, though we will slowly be transitioning into Wesemann Hall.

Hours of operation: 6 am to 2 pm

How to obtain items from Surplus

Submit a work order requesting to schedule a meeting to look through surplus. Be sure to include the following:

  • Name, phone number, email address, and delivery location.
  • Before the meeting, please measure your space so you know what can fit, including the width of the smallest doorway we would need to get through. Bring these measurements with you.
  • Meet us at surplus to look through the items. If you find something you want we can measure it to make sure it will fit, tag it, and schedule a time to deliver the item.
  • Once we deliver the item we will close the work order.
How to place items in Surplus

Submit a work order requesting items to be removed to surplus. Be sure to include the following:

  • Pick-up location
  • Items to be picked up (tagging items is also recommended in case you are not present when we come to do the move)
  • GL account number. This is required! Due to the overwhelming amount of surplus trash requests we have received, a GL# is required. If an item is determined to be trash, labor will be charged to the provided account number as a waste management move.
  • Date(s) and time(s) that works best for you. We can’t guarantee this time, but will do our best to accommodate your needs

Note: There is no longer a need to use a surplus request form. Please explain what you’re requesting in the description of the work order. If needed, you can attach a file to the work order.

Moving Procedure

Submit a work order requesting items to be moved. Be sure to include the following:

  • Which items need to go where (tagging items is also recommended in case you are not present when we come to do the move).
  • GL account number. This is required for all moves, waste/recycle management, and re-arranging of office spaces! Moves will not be completed until a GL# is provided.
  • The specific time/day the move is needed, otherwise we will get to all moves as our schedule and staffing permit.
What Happens to University Surplus?

Items in good condition are moved to a storage area and made available to all departments at no cost. Should there be no need on campus for the items in storage they will be sold in auction or recycled.

Computers and Printers: FM does not move/dispose of IT items. To request removal of these items place an IT ticket via the Information Technology department website.

University Property

Regardless of condition or value, you may not give Valparaiso University property to any person or entity.

Items found near or around trash containers and/or temporarily stored awaiting disposal may not be removed from University premises.
