About Us
First impressions are everything. At Valparaiso University, it’s often the thriving trees and lush plant life, the spotless floors, the well-lit rooms, and the comfortable environments that make an impact on visitors and the people that inhabit it on a daily basis. It’s the first indication that level of quality, care, and attention to detail extends to the services offered by the University.
The employees in Facilities Management maintain the functionality, beauty, and security of our campus to ensure a positive and safe environment for students, faculty, and staff to learn and work. In pursuit of this goal, each year, the technicians in FM’s service departments complete more than 8,000 work orders across campus:
- Building Services maintains the cleanliness and order of buildings and residential halls.
- Landscape & Grounds crews maintain the Tree Campus USA-recognized grounds, moves furniture/equipment, and sets up/tears down events
- Maintenance’s team of carpenters, electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians, and locksmiths keep campus equipment and buildings functioning properly and safely for smooth day-today operations
- The office supports the FM department by coordinating work, answering the emergency work order line, processing purchase orders and key work orders, and acting as the first point of contact for visitors to the department
- The Project and Energy and Sustainability teams oversee the design and management of projects, making sure that they are done efficiently, safely, and with conservation in mind
