Valpo Esports Hosts Manchester University For GLEC Competition
On February 24th Valpo Esports hosted Manchester University’s Esports team for their Great Lakes Esports Conference Competition. Valpo competed against Manchester in two games: Rocket League, and Super Smash Bros Ultimate.
Starting with Rocket League heading into the day Valpo’s Rocket League team was (4-2), While Manchester was (5-2). Valpo unfortunately lost a close match by a score of (3-1). Junior Captain Soren Burkholder led them with a stellar performance, but it was not enough to come away with a win.
Valpo’s Smash team played next heading into the game with a perfect record of (8-0). Manchester has also excelled in smash this season with a perfect record of (6-0). and they continued their success today with a (2-0) win over Valpo. Notable performances include Cristian Pagan who took four stocks in game 1, and Junior Ben Chappey with a debut on Diddy Kong.
Graduate Assistant Henry Woofter stated, “It was unfortunate we were not able to come out with a win, but overall it was a successful day and we were ecstatic to have the opportunity to host yet another competition in Valpo’s state-of-the-art facility.”
Both Rocket League and Smash teams for Valpo are still in contention for a coveted spot in playoffs with a chance to travel to Canton, Ohio’s Hall of Fame Village for the in-person competition later this semester.
