Overwatch 2 Travels to Bethel University
Saturday, February 17th, Valpo’s Varsity Overwatch 2 team traveled to South Bend, Indiana, to take on Bethel University.
The Varsity Overwatch team is headed into the matchup (3-1) with wins over Olivet, Lourdes, and Defiance, in the Great Lakes Esports Conference (GLEC). Bethel University’s Overwatch team the reigning GLEC Overwatch champions also has started the season well with a record of (3-0).
Valpo’s Overwatch team is led by Senior Captain Franco “Famputy” Raimondi. Graduate Assistant Henry Woofter says, “Franco is an essential part of our Overwatch team and is a leader inside and outside of the game. Franco is not only a great player, but a great person, and any team would be lucky to have him”. The Overwatch team is also guided by first-year coach Jared Wood. Woofter said, “Jared is a great coach and mentor to our players. He has stepped up to the plate in his first year and has led our team to a lot of success already. Jared also preaches the importance of academics, and respect, and is actively involved in ensuring our culture is exceptional.”
Valpo had a valiant effort but ultimately Bethel University defeated Valpo 3-0. Notable performances came from Senior DPS Franco Raimondi and Sophomore Flex Ben Zaweski. With this loss, Valpo is currently 3-2 on the season in the GLEC and continues to fight to punch their ticket to playoffs in Ohio later this semester.
