Jennie (Cho) Magiera
Technology + Education + Passion = Wow.
Jennie believes that the classroom should reflect the world for which we are preparing our students. If we are asking them to create, innovate and be outstanding as graduates entering a terrifying job market, then our classrooms should be creative, innovative and outstanding places to learn. Everyday. Period. Jenny is the author of Courageous Edventures.
Jennie began her career as a 4th/5th grade teacher in Chicago Public Schools and then served as the Digital Learning Coordinator for the Academy for Urban School Leadership (a network of CPS schools). Currently she is the Chief Technology Officer for Des Plaines Public School District 62. In all of these roles she has worked to redefine education through digital learning both in her daily work with teachers and students as well as leading workshops and sharing their stories in keynotes.
Jennie’s passions are building student agency, engaging educators solve problems of practice and helping both adults and students rediscover playtime. She is also excited about transforming professional learning, serving on the Technical Working Group for the US Department of Education’s National Educational Technology Plan and co-founding PLAYDATE and other PD concepts. She is fortunate to be honored as a TEDx speaker, White House Champion for Change, Apple Distinguished Educator, Google for Education Certified Innovator, Google Education Trainer and CPS’ 2012 Tech Innovator of the Year. Jennie is the author of Courageous Edventures: Navigating Obstacles to Discover Classroom Innovation.
