Karl has been recognized by the Indiana Broadcasters Association for excellence in commercial production (2005, 2006, 2008, 2009).  Additionally, ESPN Valparaiso Productions was honored by the Missouri Valley Conference as the 2022-2023 Production Unit of the Year, for the quality of their institutionally produced live events.

Biography

Karl Berner began lecturing in the spring of 2015, teaching audio production courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.  He also is a Broadcast and Webstreaming Manager for ESPN Valpo Productions (which brings live Valpo Athletics to the masses through the ESPN app) and also serves as faculty adviser for VU-TV.  Upon graduating from Valpo in 2000 with a B.A. in Broadcasting, with a focus on radio and television production, Professor Berner was hired as Production Director of La Porte County Broadcasting, overseeing commercial and promotional production for a two-station radio cluster.  In 2012, he was hired as Promotions Manager and radio personality with Radio One Communications.  He currently serves as Assistant Program Director and Operations Manager for three FM radio stations owned by Adams Radio Group Northern Indiana, based in Valparaiso.  He resides in Valparaiso with his partner, Ruth, and their three cats.
