Biography

Professor Rachel Fischer teaches in the graduate program within the College of Nursing and Health Professions. In addition to her faculty role, she continues as an advanced practice provider in post-acute & long-term care in Northwest Indiana. Professor Fischer earned both her Bachelors of Science in Nursing as well as her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Valparaiso University. She is ANCC Board Certified as a family nurse practitioner.

Dr. Fischer is dedicated to continuing her own education as an advanced practice registered nurse, having taken post-DNP immersive courses in palliative care & wound, ostomy and continence care. She is a member of the ANA / ISNA, AANP, CAPNI, and Sigma Theta Tau Zeta Epsilon & Mu Omega chapters.

Throughout her career, Dr. Fischer has sought to fulfill as many APRN roles as possible, beginning with a poster presentation at MNRS 2012. She has given multiple guest lectures to colleagues and community members, served as adjunct faculty for undergraduate and graduate nursing programs, and now as full-time graduate faculty member. Dr. Fischer has participated in research as a clinical investigator and co-author for a clinical study of insulin therapies in long-term care and she has served on leadership & project improvement committees within her workplace. Additionally, she has served as a medical review panelist in 2015 & 2019 for malpractice cases within the state of Indiana.
