Biography

Professor Sheets has taught in the undergraduate program since 2004. She has clinical experience in geriatrics, long-term care, hospice, and home care/community health. Dr. Sheets manages the care of geriatric residents in a privately owned home through Moses Caregivers. She is a content review expert on geriatric, long term care and home care courses for Medbridge, Inc and performs contracted textbook and question review work for Graphic World, Inc.

Professor Sheets is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, American Nurses Association, National Gerontological Nursing Association, and is an Honors Member of the Nightingale Society. She holds a certificate from Purdue North Central in Supervision/Leadership, and has completed coursework in Foundations in Holistic Nursing, sponsored by the American Holistic Nurses Association. She has also completed training through the GNEC to incorporate geriatric nursing into baccalaureate nursing education.

Professor Sheets has co-authored articles published in Nursing Education Perspectives, Rehabilitation Nursing, and The Journal of Advanced Nursing Practice. She was a co-presenter at the seventh National Conference on Nursing Skills Laboratories. She has also presented her DNP EBP project, “The Care Transitions Intervention and its Effect on 60-Day Readmission Rates” at NWINRC, the National Gerontological Nursing Association Annual Convention, and the Canadian Gerontological Nurses Association Biennial meeting. Professor Sheets has written a book chapter that has been accepted by the National Gerontological Nursing Association Review of Gerontological Nursing. She was a content reviewer for numerous chapters in Gerontological Nursing (3rd edition), and for the Geriatric Nursing Knowledge Assessment Project.

Professor Sheets has worked with faculty and students at Valparaiso University on research projects in health literacy, CAUTI protocol and currently loneliness of older adults as they transition to assisted living. Presentation of past research projects have been done at Valpo’s Celebration of Undergraduate Research events, STTI conferences, and IU Health research conferences.
